Joining Gecko: My Journey to a More Fulfilling Career
As a young aspiring cricket coach who had just completed a university degree in sports
coaching science, applying for a job at Gecko seemed like a no-brainer. I had heard about
Gecko when I was studying at the University of Gloucestershire, however, once I graduated
and delved deeper to find out more about the company, I knew it was the perfect
workplace for me. As Gecko delivers professional cricket coaching all year round throughout
Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, and Oxfordshire, I was impressed with their reach and thought
they must be one of the top coaching companies to cover such distances. What impressed
me most with Gecko was the talent of their coaching team which includes an ex-
international, an U19 World Cup winner, a former county cricketer, as well as minor county
and academy players. With all this experience in high-performance cricket, I knew it was a
great way to develop my cricket coaching within an enjoyable workplace.
As someone who passionately studied sports coaching academia, I have developed a
philosophy which now follows a holistic and person-centred approach to coaching which
aligns with Geckos' values. Gecko implements both approaches by focusing on each
individual they coach by considering the whole person and not just their cricketing ability by
preparing cricketers for their next delivery in cricket and life, which supports a person-
centred approach. Now I am coming up to four months since starting my role with Gecko I
can safely say it is the best decision I have made, and I look forward to further evolving my
cricket coaching knowledge by continuing to learn from my talented colleagues as well as
develop their coaching through my approaches.
