From Lord to Lords

Ben Lord – 16 years old

I’m a bowling all-rounder who plays cricket for both Dean Close School and Charlton Kings 1st XI who play in WEPL Gloucestershire. I’m a fast seam bowler (bowling in and around 71/72mph) which will hopefully go up by the end of this 2024 season. With the bat I base my game around power whilst staying technically correct (usually batting 4 or 5)

From the age of 12 I have been in and around the Gloucestershire set up, playing and Captaining the Gloucestershire and Forest of Dean District side for 2 years at u12s and u13s, District cricket unfortunately came to and end at 14s and I didn’t make either the County or County Development side in my u14s season. I proceeded to play well for my club and school and got selected the proceeding year at u15s. The Gloucestershire set up then jumped from u15s to u18s so as of current, I’m not playing representative cricket. During this period, 96 is my top score and I am yet to take a 5for. However, I was more of a batting focused all rounder, it has only been within the last year that I have put more emphasis on bowling with the guys at Gecko.

Throughout my cricketing journey, Gecko have been amazing at providing consistency for me and my cricket and always believing in my natural ability when others didn’t take the time to see it. The Gecko coaches (Especially Ryan and Brad) have made me the player I am today and I would be nowhere near the level I am at without them. Going forward I hope to Captain the Dean Close 1XI and continue to improve as a player with the help of Gecko until I head off to University to continue my journey in a few years time.
